Centering
on the Grand featured artists Bill Kohn, Peter
Marcus, and Robert Pettus, who through their
works explore the vibrant Creative and Cultural
District of St. Louis known as Grand Center.
The Contemporary
Art Museum St. Louis presented a series
of large-scale paintings, prints, and photographs
that were inspired by the significant buildings
and sights located in Grand Center, including
The Fox Theatre, Continental Life Building,
Masonic Temple, and the renowned Pulitzer Foundation
for the Arts.
Exhibition organizer Bill Kohn said,Grand
Center as a landscape embodies forces of creativity,
decay, restoration, preservation, learning and
innovation, interacting over time in the heart
of a metropolitan region, whose rich character
is often overlooked by its own residents.
Programming concerning urban renewal and the
architectural history of Grand Center coincided
with the exhibition.
